There is one principal in the practice:
Andre Hess BVSc. MRCVS qualified from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 1985, where he won the Swiss Federal Scholarship to continue his studies at the Eidgenoessische Forschungsanstalt fuer Milchwirtschaft. Everybody agrees that Andre has a unique understanding of what the pet-owner wants, and has a natural way with animals. People travel from far-afield to see Andre.
Andre also breeds and shows Norfolk Terriers, and sits on the national committee for the breed. He is also a well-known ceramicist with several international medals under his belt, and a writer on veterinary matters, as well as fiction.
There are two part-time veterinary surgeons:
Jonathan Grey BVSc., MRCVSQualified from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2010. Jonathan received his first degree from Oxford University, where he started out as a boy chorister. Jonathan still sings on a freelance basis, and is a Tenor.
Clare Loizides B.Vet.Med, MRCVS qualified from the University of Cambridge, but has almost always lived locally in Harpenden. She is currently looking after a young child.
The nursing staff:
Shelly Long is our very capable Head Nurse. Apart from being very busy at work she also has many cats, keeps chickens, and is a serious cyclist. Shelly is our in-house cat behaviourist.
Karen Esquilant is a qualified VN and also a keen runner. She has completed the London Marathon several times.
Natalie Long is a fully qualified veterinary nurse. She has worked at this practice for many years. She has owned many cats and dogs and her other interests include music. She loves to spend time walking dogs with her family.
Michelle Davis is a nurse of vast experience, and works part-time in the practice while she raises a young family. She does much of the book-keeping and paper-work.
Gail Hornby has been with us for longer than many can remember. She works part-time and performs the valuable task of helping whenever necessary.
Sue Shelly is one of our part-time staff nurses. Sue is available during the middle of the day to answer your queries and give advice.
