We continue to ask that clients DO NOT attend practice if they have, or suspect they have, COVID. Thank you.

In early January 2024, new legislation came into force that may affect you and your pet(s) next time you need anti-parasite treatments (the routine flea and worming treatments). Where we could previously dispense for up to 12 months from the date of their last visit, we are now likely to have to see your pet again before we can dispense any more medication.

Any of these products classed as 'Prescription-Only Medicines - Vet' (POM-V on the box), which includes most of the flea and worming treatments we routinely dispense in-practice, can only now be prescribed following a physical examination. Once this is done, the vet can leave a note to say that we continue to dispense that same product for a period of time up to 12 months (at their discretion). Unfortunately, if you wish to change product, or your pet changes into a different weight category, we will then need to see them again before we can provide an alternative product.

We appreciate this is quite a big change, and will be quite frustrating in the short term but as these are government regulations we must follow the guidance we are given.

If you would like to read more about the changes, you can do so here.

As most people are now aware, since leaving the EU in 2020, British Pet Passports are no longer valid for entry to the EU. In order to visit any EU with your pet from the UK, you will need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC).

If your pet has a valid EU-issued pet passport, please double-check with the ports on exit and entry that this will be accepted for your journey. Please note, if the most recent rabies vaccination declaration has been signed by a UK vet, this passport will no longer be valid for travel to the EU.

These involve a lot more paperwork than the old passport system, so we may often ask that you come back to collect the certificate a day or two after your appointment.

In order to travel to the EU with your pet, your pet(s) must have:
- An up-to-date rabies vaccination (the vaccine we use is valid for 3 years, but this varies by manufacturer), or if out-of-date/not previously vaccinated, a rabies vaccine at least 21 days before travel
- A visit to the vet a maximum 10 days before entering the EU

These are rules put in place by the EU, and are not flexible. Various countries within the EU also have specific rules of entry, so please ensure you have checked exactly what is necessary in order to allow a smooth journey. We are unable to advise on particular entry requirements, so please contact DEFRA or the equivalent in your destination country.

If you have booked an appointment for an AHC, please take a few moments to complete the form below. You can then either email it back to us (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or bring it with you to your appointment. You will need to complete a new form for each animal, and can travel with a maximum of 5 animals on any one trip.
